About the Author

Bruce Dalby is Professor of Music at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music education and improvisation. He has ten years experience as a high school band director. Dr. Dalby received his undergraduate education from Utah State University and his graduate degrees in music education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research and teaching interests include Music Learning Theory, improvisation, intonation, rhythm and applications of technology in music teaching and learning. He has articles published in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Music Educators Journal, Jazz Educators Journal, Musicus, and The Instrumentalist. Dr. Dalby is the author of Audiation Assistant, published by G.I.A. Publications of Chicago, an ear-training software program based on the methods and techniques of the Music Learning Theory of Edwin E. Gordon. He currently serves as president of the Gordon Institute for Music Learning (GIML), the international organization that supports the Music Learning Theory cause. He is also the developer and author of the official World Wide Web site for GIML and Music Learning Theory.

Dr. Dalby’s involvement with software development began with his entry to doctoral studies and the mind-focusing experience of contemplating the need to conceive, undertake and complete a dissertation. Four or five major projects later he likes to think of himself as the world’s most reluctant programmer. He hopes you find Tune Assistant a useful musical and teaching tool.
